Frequently Asked Questions
Find the answers about your appliance, including common issues, troubleshooting, and maintenance tips. Our FAQ section offers clear and helpful information to help you extend the life of your appliance.
Your KitchenAid dishwasher will not drain due to several common issues.
- Clogged Drain Filter: Food debris buildup inside the filter, obstructing water flow and decreasing cleaning effectiveness. Regularly clean the drain filter to avoid blockages and enhance cleaning performance.
- Blocked Drain Hose: Accumulated buildup or kinks restricting drainage. Use your dishwasher daily to allow constant water flow and prevent drain hose clogs.
- Faulty Drain Pump: A faulty drain pump is one of the most frequent causes of a KitchenAid dishwasher not draining properly.
- Clogged Air Gap: Regularly check and clean the air gap to prevent draining issues.
A blinking Clean light on your KitchenAid dishwasher usually indicates a problem with the heating circuit.
- Heating Element Failure: The purpose of the heating element is to warm up water during the wash cycle and to dry dishes at the end. When it fails to operate, the "Clean" LED will flash seven times in short intervals, indicating the heating error.
- Control Board: A defective control board in a KitchenAid dishwasher can lead to heating issues by failing to power the heating element. As a result, the dishwasher may wash dishes with cold water and won't progress to the next stage of the cycle, leading to poor and incomplete cleaning.
- Clogged Spray Arms and Drain Filter: Regularly clean the sppray arms and filter and remove any food debris if necessary.
- Incorrect Detergent Usage: Use fresh, quality detergent and the correct amount for each load. Do not use old detergent. Run a dishwasher cleaner periodically to dissolve mineral deposits.
- Defective Pump-Motor Assembly: Faulty and worn-out pump-motor assembly is the most common cause of this issue. Also, check the drain pump because if the dishwasher is not draining properly, it will clean dishes with dirty water, and the dishes will not get cleaned.

Maintenance Tips
🧼 Cleaning the Interior of the Dishwasher
Hard water mineral deposits can harm your dishwasher and make it difficult to achieve optimal cleaning results. If your water hardness is 15 grains or more, it is highly recommended to use a water softener.
One of the most common signs of hard water is the white spots or residue on the dishes and the dishwasher's interior. Over time, this residue will accumulate on the internal components, negatively impacting the washing performance. Sometimes, white residue will appear on the dishes due to using the old detergent.
Use Dishwasher Cleaning Tablets or White Vinegar
Using a dishwasher cleaning product can help remove residue from your machine. It is recommended to use a dishwasher cleaner monthly to maintain it in good condition. Simply place one tablet in the detergent dispenser and do not add any detergent. If there is a noticeable buildup, you can also place a second tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher. Then, run a normal wash cycle. Another way to eliminate white residue is by using a vinegar rinse. However, since vinegar is acidic, frequent use could damage your dishwasher.
Removing Excess Suds from KitchenAid Dishwasher
If you notice suds, bubbles, or soap foam when you open your dishwasher, turn it off and let the suds dissipate. Using the wrong type of detergent or too much detergent can lead to excessive sudsing. This can cause water to leak out of the dishwasher and result in poor washing performance. Always use detergent specifically formulated for automatic dishwashers. You can also use white vinegar to remove excess suds faster.
- Stop and cancel the dishwasher cycle.
- Remove dishes from the dishwasher.
- Add ¼ of the cup of the white vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher.
- Run a Quick Cycle with no detergent or dishes.
- Repeat the steps if suds are still present.
Food Odors
Odors in a dishwasher can be caused by dirty dishes and food particles that fall into the tub or other areas and start to decompose. If you don't use your dishwasher daily, consider running a rinse cycle with a partial load until you have enough for a full wash. To keep the dishwasher clean, use dishwasher cleaner regularly.
Regularly cleaning the filters is essential for maintaining your dishwasher's optimal performance and eliminating any unpleasant odors. The filters are located at the bottom center of the dishwasher. For detailed instructions on how to remove and clean the filters, please refer to the Owner's Manual.
